Start Filing

Step 1:

Add Business

In order to add a Business, please login to your account.

Click on "Enter a New Business" or "Select an Existing Business"

Note: A Business needs an EIN (Employer Identification Number). If you do not have an EIN, you can apply online at www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/ and click on the Employer ID Numbers (EINs) Link.

Step 2:

Choose Tax Year and First Month usage of the vehicle

The Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return (HVUT) Tax period starts 1st of July and ends on June 30th of following year.

Form 2290 must be filed once a vehicle is put to use. Choose the first month when the vehicle was used on a highway. The due date for filing Form 2290 is last day of the following month.

If you no longer have vehicles to report, check the box "Final Return".

Step 3:

Add Vehicles

When filing Form 2290, you can add taxable vehicles, suspended vehicles, prior suspended vehicles, sold/destroyed/stolen vehicles and low mileage vehicles.

Taxable Vehicles are Highway Motor vehicles that have taxable gross weight of 55000 pounds or more.

Suspended Vehicles are Highway Motor vehicles which are expected to be used for 5000 miles (7500 for agricultural vehicles) or less on public highways.

Prior Year Suspended Vehicles are Highway Motor vehicles that were declared as suspended in previous year.

Sold/Destroyed/Stolen Vehicles are Highway Motor vehicles are sold to another person, destroyed or stolen in previous year. Tax credits can be claimed from IRS for these vehicles.

Low Mileage Vehicles are Highway Motor vehicles for which credits can be claimed from IRS, as these vehicles haven't exceeded the mileage limit.

Step 4:

Make Payment to IRS

IRS payment can be done in two ways: Electronic Fund Withdrawal or through Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).

Electronic Fund Withdrawal: It is direct debit of money from your account.

Note: IRS will not process your payment on Weekends and Federal Holidays.

Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS): Using EFTPS is voluntary, but you must enroll in EFTPS before you can use it. Please visit www.eftps.gov for enrolment..

Note: For making on time EFTPS payments the transaction must be initiated at least 1 business day before the payment is due.

step 6:

Return Submission to IRS

Once you have made the payment, you will be shown a summary page displaying Business Information Summary, Tax Year Summary, Vehicle Entered Summary and Payment Summary.

If all the information dispalyed here is fine, you can click on the submit button to e-file the form to IRS.

Note: If you wish to change any of the entered information, then it can be done from the Summary Page.

Step 7:

Get your Schedule 1 Copy

After your return is submitted to IRS you will receive your watermarked Schedule 1 copy in around 15 minutes. You can download it from our e-trucktax.com on the My Filings Page. For your convenience, we will notify you by email when your stamped copy of Schedule 1 is available for download. This serves as your proof of filing taxes to IRS.

If for any reason, IRS rejects the submitted return, you will receive an email explaining the reasons for rejection.

Step 8:

Get 2290 Form Copy

Once you have made the payment and received your Schedule 1 copy, we are also generating a 2290 form copy.

Note:This is the copy of 2290 form, you can use it for your reference.
